A Time To Ceilidh!
December 2015, we’re sat in my parent’s house in Ireland and having a good natter over a mug of tea. We talk about the year just gone and try to forecast the year ahead in Night And Day terms. As we talk, Ben comes up with a fantastic idea of Night And Day hosting a monthly ceilidh, open to the public in Manchester. The rest, as they say, is history!
Our first monthly ceilidh took place on 23rd February at The Wonder Inn in town, and what a night we had! Emma Sweeney, Adele Farrell, Mairead Hussy and Jack Rutter led the music that night, with Olly Hamilton calling the dances. We played to a packed house of people who were all so full of infectious enthusiasm and energy. Dances such as, Strip The Willow and Gay Gordon’s were called and people laughed and smiled as they learnt the steps. There was a freeness in the way that people moved, a freeness that rarely exists in every day life: A freeness to put a foot wrong, to dance a beat out of time, to swing the wrong partner, and to laugh it all off at the end of it. The moral of the story; the world needs more ceilidhs!
Since that initial ceilidh at The Wonder Inn, we’ve held one each month. If you’d like to come and join us, please check out our Events page, or visit our Facebook page for up to date information about the next one.
